The Library

Hidden beyond The Bookshop and away from the street, The Library is our private refuge for members. It is designed as a place to read, write, work, converse, or simply disappear for an afternoon among books. The collection will reflect the intellectual life of The Library itself, shaped and continually curated by The Lamp-Post’s owners and its members. Comfortable chairs, leather top tables, lamplight, and member lockers create an atmosphere that feels more like a beloved private library than a modern members’ club. The library will host historical lectures, literary conversations, readings, and small gatherings throughout the year. Membership is intended to create a genuine community around books without turning reading into a networking exercise. It is a place for people who still believe that an afternoon spent reading is an afternoon well spent. It will be the sacred heart of The Lamp-Post.

Membership to The Library will be offered in several tiers and made available on a first-come, first-served basis. We will keep our membership deliberately limited — The Library is meant to remain a refuge, with enough room to settle into a chair, lose an afternoon to a book, and occasionally hear yourself think. Once we have reached capacity, new applicants will join a waiting list, with places becoming available as memberships turn over. First word of membership sign-ups will be sent through our newsletter and then later announced on Instagram, so those hoping to claim a corner of The Library would be wise to keep an eye on both.
