The Bookshop

The Lamp-Post is an independent English-language bookshop built around the simple conviction that great books still matter. Our shelves will bring together classics, literature, history, philosophy, biography, poetry, and the great conversations and ideas that have survived generations. Rather than trying to carry everything, we want the shop to feel considered and personal — a collection with a point of view, where one book naturally leads you to another. Alongside familiar titles, we hope to introduce readers to books they might never have gone looking for themselves. The catalogue is being developed by our Literary Director, Dr. Jameson Workman, an Oxford-trained literary scholar, with an emphasis on books worth reading, rereading, discussing, and keeping. Bookselling for us is as much about recommendation and conversation as transaction. We want The Lamp-Post to be the kind of bookshop you enter looking for one thing and leave an hour later carrying something entirely unexpected.
